The goal of the Bottle Shock Game is to have your wine win The Judgment of St. Helena. And to unmask the corrupt judges...unless you are one of them. Some are honest. And some judges are attempting to rig the contest for Sir Nigel Ballsworthy, or for his ex-wife, Countess Livia VonWulfe.
Here’s the hitch: There are an even number of Judges, and unless an odd number is eliminated, the game continues until one wine has more votes than the others.
The game is played in four rounds, each featuring one of the four concealed wines. At the end, there is a final vote.
May the best bottle win.
Our story is set in the beautiful and ridiculous ’70s. We’re somewhere between the hippie ’60s and the New Wave ‘80s. Okay, disco was happening, but it didn’t reach any of our characters except maybe Countess Livia and young Sally Bouchet, though they’d never own up to it. We’re also in Northern California, a destination with elusive elegance and a regal attitude that calls San Francisco "The City" even though it's dwarfed by Los Angeles. There’s an old-world feeling to our game and this part of the world. St. Helena, California, views itself as the equal of the St. Helena Napoleon was exiled to, which was the Beverly Hills of Europe. Some of our characters wear dubious titles and others see themselves as the descendants of troubadours, knights errant, grail questers, and sorceresses.
Become the snob.
